TORONTO -- Ricky Ray threw two touchdown passes to Chad Owens as the Toronto Argonauts held on for a 33-32 win over the Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday afternoon. Ray found Owens twice in the first half as Toronto (5-8) earned its second straight win to move into a first-place tie with idle Montreal (5-8) and Hamilton (5-7) in the East Division. The Tiger-Cats hosted the B.C. Lions on Saturday night. Ray improved to 2-3 against his former team before an announced gathering of 16,276 with the Rogers Centre roof closed. The Argos were at home for the first time since a 33-17 loss to B.C. on Aug. 17. However, Edmonton made it interesting as Mike Reilly found Nate Coehoorn on a 15-yard TD, then ran for the two-point convert to pull the Eskimos to within 33-32 with 25 seconds remaining. But Torontos Jamie Robinson recovered the onside kick. Toronto will not only play its final five regular-season games against East Division competition, but also be at home for four of them. Kendial Lawrence had two TDs for Edmonton (9-5), including a 107-yard kickoff return. The Eskimos remain tied with Saskatchewan for second in the West Division although theyll play their remaining four games against conference rivals (two home, two away). Toronto improved to 4-6 against West Division teams and 1-7 when trailing at halftime. Edmonton fell to 6-2 against East Division squads. Eskimos head coach Chris Jones was making his first appearance in Toronto, having served as Argos defensive co-ordinator in 2012-13. Swayze Waters connected from 14 yards out at 8:08 of the third to put Toronto ahead 23-21 before hitting field goals of 28 and 27 yards to boost the advantage to 29-21 with 11:06 remaining. Hugh ONeill made a 44-yard boot at 6:13 to cut Edmontons deficit to 29-24 before Waters missed from 21 yards for the single at 10:26. However, Waters hit a 38-yard boot at 13:39 to put Toronto ahead 33-24. Waters finished with two converts, six field goals and a single. Mike Reilly also had a TD for Edmonton. ONeill kicked three converts and a field goal. Lawrence and Reilly scored touchdowns less than two minutes apart in the second quarter and Dexter McCoil registered a timely interception to earn Edmonton a 21-20 half-time advantage. Reilly scored on a 23-yard TD run at 9:18, then found Lawrence on a 15-yard scoring strike to put Edmonton ahead 21-20. Lawrences score was set up by Deon Laceys recovery of Robert Gills kickoff return fumble at the Toronto 36-yard line. The Argos responded with a smart-looking drive to the Edmonton 18 when Ray threw into the endzone looking for Owens. But McCoil intercepted and returned to the Eskimos 25-yard line with 1:14 remaining. Two Ray touchdown passes and Lawrences 107-yard kickoff return highlighted an eventful first. Rays 28-yard TD strike to Owens at 4:39 opened the scoring before the two combined on a four-yard TD pass at 8:12. Lawrence returned the ensuing kickoff back for the TD, which was upheld after reviewing whether he had stepped out of bounds on the play. Toronto countered with Waters 45-yard field goal at 12:06 to go ahead 17-7. NOTES: Owens and Andre Durie -- who broke his right clavicle for the second time this season in practice last week -- have been in Torontos lineup together just three times this season . . .
