DALLAS -- The Dallas Stars top goal scorers got major help on Friday night. Seven different Stars scored in a 7-3 victory over the Nashville Predators. Tyler Seguin or Jamie Benn was not among them. Each player had an assist. Colton Sceviour, Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt each had a goal and an assist. Alex Goligoski had three assists, tying his career high. Going into the game, Seguin had 75 points and Benn 69. Dallas third-highest scorer was Goligoski, with 33. Vernon Fiddler, whose first-period goal was his fifth this season, said: "Its nice to get some depth scoring. At the end of the day, weve got to continue to do that. The big guns need some help with that, and it takes a little bit of pressure off of them." Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen allowed three goals on 28 shots. Pekka Rinne had 22 saves. After Nashville pulled within 5-3 in the third period on Eric Nystroms goal, Valeri Nichushkin and Cody Eakin scored 9 seconds apart for a 7-3 edge. Nichushkins unassisted goal went off Predators defenceman Shea Webers stick. "We tipped two in our own net," Weber said. "They got one off the skate, and then they scored off the rush. They got a little bit of everything, and it just wasnt good enough for us." Thats why Nashville coach Barry Trotz didnt consider pulling Rinne. "Not really, even when they got six and seven. Six and seven were deflected. There was nothing you could do about it." Stars coach Lindy Ruff, who preaches putting pucks on the net, was pleased about the four goals that deflected off teammates sticks or bodies. "We got some good breaks. We had a couple put in by their defencemen. We got enough pucks going to the net, and got rewarded for it." Goals by Garbutt and Fiddler gave the Stars a 2-0 lead after one period. Sceviour, Alex Chiasson and Daley scored in the second period that ended with a 5-2 advantage for Dallas. The Predators Patric Hornqvist and Michael Del Zotto also scored in the second. The victory improved Dallas playoff hopes. The Stars have 81 points -- three behind Phoenix, which has the Western Conferences last playoff position. The Stars have nine games remaining, including a game Saturday at St. Louis. Phoenix has eight to play. The game started well for the Stars against Nashville, which was coming off a 6-1 win over Buffalo on Thursday. "They looked fresh," Trotz said. "They jumped on us. I dont know how many pucks we just got it to the red line and just turned it over and they transitioned on us, and its hard to play that way. Youre spending your energy in the wrong area." Garbutt gave Dallas a 1-0 lead when he tipped Antoine Roussels pass from the right corner past Rinne. The Stars took a 2-0 lead on a 2-on-1 rush at 14:05 of the first. As a defender slid to the ice attempting to block a shot, Sceviour passed across to Fiddler on the right side, and he drilled a snap shot into the net. Dallas outshot the Predators 9-5 in the first period. Nashvilles best chance to score came on the only shot during the power play, when Craig Smiths shot from the top of the left circle went off Lehtonens pads. Goligoski and Daley, Fridays starting defensive pair, each finished with plus-5 ratings. Ruff said: "Thats a good night when youre plus-5 on the score sheet. I think youve seen by ice times these last 30-40 games how much we think of that pair and how much difference they can make. They made some real good plays for us." Lang expects a similar reception for the Canadian team as the host nation at this years tournament, which begins Tuesday.Wales lock Luke Charteris believes a potential runners-up finish in this seasons Six Nations Championship offers scant consolation for the team. The Racing 92 forward acknowledged that second spot would be an improvement on last term, when Wales ended up third in the table, but Saturdays 25-21 defeat against newly crowned champions England ended their title hopes.Wales will secure second position if they beat Italy at the Principality Stadium next Saturday. Asked if second place would see the current Six Nations campaign regarded as a successful one, Charteris said: No, because we were trying to win it.But if we come second, its one better than last year. Every year we go into the championship trying to win and with the confidence that we can. Weve come up short this year - we will go again next year.Charteris and his colleagues faced a Twickenham debrief at their Vale of Glamorgan training base on Monday, when their sluggish start against England was almost certainly a topic of discussion.Wales trailed 19-0 and 25-7 against England, while an uncharacteristic 19 missed tackles during the first half accelerated their demise. It was a bad day at the office for us - there is no hiding away from that, Charteris said. Wales were punished by England after a poor start at Twickenham We went out there with a goal to win the game and give us a chance to play Italy at home with a chance of winning the championship.dddddddddddd That didnt happen, and there are a lot of disappointed boys because of that. There were one or two things in that first half that we will have to address and change. Thats for us this week to have a look at, look back at the videos and work hard, because we have a really big game on Saturday again. We lost a Test match, but the environment we have is always very honest. If the boys play well, they will get praised and be told they played well, and if they play badly, we will be told we played badly. All the boys know we didnt perform as well as we could and should have performed, because we lost the game, so I dont think there will be any surprises in the review. We will take it on the chin and learn from it.I can promise you that going into the game, the boys were highly motivated because if we had won that game we would have had the opportunity to come back to Cardiff on the last weekend of the Six Nations knowing that a win would see us win the championship.Obviously, it didnt go how we wanted it to go in the game.I wish there was a simple answer, but its certainly not a lack of emotion or anything like that. We didnt transfer that preparation and state of how we were feeling into the performance, and that is what we have to address.
