A roundup of the past weeks notable boxing results from around the world:Sunday at Zama, JapanNaoya Monster Inoue TKO10 Petchbarngborn Kokietgym Retains a junior bantamweight title Records:?Inoue (11-0, 9 KOs); Kokietgym (38-8-1, 18 KOs)Rafaels remarks:?In front of his hometown fans, Inoue, already a two-division world titleholder at age 23, retained his 115-pound belt for the third time as he beat down Kokietgym, the 31-year-old mandatory challenger from Thailand. Inoue ended Kokietgyms 16-fight winning streak in a one-sided beating. Inoue, who also won a world title at junior flyweight before moving up two weight classes to win his second belt, won every round in the dominant outing before putting him away at the end of the 10th round. Inoue finally knocked him down just before the bell ended the round, culminating an onslaught of punches with a finishing right hand to the chin that dropped him hard on his rear end. Kokietgym struggled to his feet, barely beating the count, but he was in terrible shape and referee Mark Nelson waved off the fight at 3 minutes, 3 seconds. Also on the card, bantamweight contender Takuma Inoue (8-0, 2 KOs), the 20-year-old younger brother of main event winner Naoya Inoue and a seven-time Japanese high school champion, survived the first knockdown of his career in the first round and pounded out a unanimous decision against Froilan Saludar (23-2-1, 14 KOs), 23, of the Philippines, in a crowd-pleasing battle. Inoue knocked down Saludar in the eighth and ninth rounds en route to winning by scores of 97-90, 97-90 and 96-91. With the victory, Inoue may get a crack at bantamweight world titleholder Marlon Tapales (29-2, 12 KOs), of the Philippines, in December.Saturday at Taguig City, Philippines?Jerwin Ancajas?W12?McJoe Arroyo Wins a junior bantamweight title Scores:?118-109, 117-110, 115-112 Records: Ancajas (25-1-1, 16 KOs); Arroyo (17-1, 8 KOs)Rafaels remarks:?Mandatory challenger Ancajas, a 24-year-old fighting in front of his home fans in the Philippines, took a big step up in opposition level against fellow southpaw Arroyo and pulled the upset to claim a 115-pound world title. In doing so, he won his 12th fight in a row and became the first boxer promoted by Manny Pacquiaos Pacquiao Promotions to win a world title; Pacquiao invited him to his home to celebrate afterwards.Arroyo, 30, of Puerto Rico, won a vacant belt by 10th-round technical decision against Arthur Villanueva in July 2015 when Villanueva suffered a cut from an accidental head butt and could not continue. But Arroyo had not fought in the 14 months since when he met Ancajas for his first defense. The aggressive Ancajas surprisingly dominated most of the fight. He rocked Arroyo with a left hand in the sixth round and knocked him down in the eighth round with a left to the body followed by a right to the head. Ancajas appeared to have scored another knockdown with a left hand to the body in the ninth round but referee Gene Del Bianco ruled it a slip. Knockdown or not, Arroyo was hurt as Ancajas rolled to his biggest victory.Saturday at San AntonioDarwin Price Jr.?TKO7?Javontae Starks Junior welterweight Records:?Price (11-0, 6 KOs); Starks (13-2, 7 KOs)Rafaels remarks:?In the Premier Boxing Champions main event on NBC Sports Net, Price, 27, of Houston, turned in a strong performance as he handed Starks, 27, of Winter Haven, Florida, his second defeat in a row. Price said before the fight that his jab would be the key and he was correct. He controlled the fight primarily with a strong jab, which he doubled and tripled, before connecting with painful power shots. Price, who is trained by star trainer Ronnie Shields, dropped Starks, who was fighting for the first time in 11 months, to the seat of his pants with a right hand, following a double jab, in the third round. In the seventh round, Price got to Starks again with his jab and came behind it with a right hand that hurt him. Then another right hand hurt Starks and Price continued to fire away until referee Mark Calo-Oy stepped in to stop the bout at 1 minute, 52 seconds.Kent Cruz?W8 Rickey Edwards Junior welterweight Scores: 77-74, 77-73 (twice) Records:?Cruz(11-0, 6 KOs); Edwards (11-1, 3 KOs)Rafaels remarks:?Cruz, 23, of St. Louis, was a late replacement opponent for Edwards but took care of business. Cruz dropped Edwards with a right hand in the second round. He had Edwards, a 26-year-old former New Jersey Golden Gloves champion from Paterson, New Jersey, who fights out of Houston, in trouble but he survived. Cruz, however, maintained control for most of the bout and was rewarded with a nice victory over a fellow prospect. In another televised bout, junior featherweight David Perez (8-0, 4 KOs), 20, of Houston, dropped Gustavo Molina (23-13, 9 KOs), 27, of Mexico, with a hard left hand to the head in the third round and then used a big right hand to the jaw to spectacularly knock him out cold?-- face first -- at 2 minutes, 35 seconds in the sixth and final round. Also on the card, middleweight Junior Castillo (11-1, 9 KOs), a 30-year-old who represented the Dominican Republic in the 2012 Olympics, rebounded from an eight-round decision loss to Justin DeLoach on June 25, to win a difficult six-round decision against Josue Obando (14-11-1, 11 KOs), 26, of Mexico, via scores of 60-54 (very questionable!), 58-56 and 58-56.Saturday at Mexico CityCarlos Chuko Diaz?W10 Samuel Gonzalez Lightweight Scores:?97-93 (three times) Records: Diaz (21-0, 10 KOs); Gonzalez (11-4, 8 KOs)Rafaels remarks:?Diaz, 21, of Mexico, a good-looking up-and-comer, rolled to a unanimous decision against Gonzalez, of Venezuela, in the beIN Sports-televised main event. Diaz, who handed Gonzalez his second loss in a row and third defeat in his last four fights, survived a rough patch in the fifth round of an otherwise solid performance. In the co-feature, lightweight journeyman Gabriel Francisco Pina (13-12-5, 5 KOs) pulled the upset in an eight-round decision win against Mexican countryman and former two-time junior lightweight world title challenger Miguel Beltran Jr. (31-5, 21 KOs), 27, winning on scores of 77-75, 77-75 and 77-76.Friday at Los AngelesAntonio Gutierrez W10 Jorge Melendez Middleweight Scores:?97-92 (twice), 96-93 Records:?Gutierrez (21-2-1, 9 KOs); Melendez (29-7-1, 27 KOs)Rafaels remarks:?It was a Mexico vs. Puerto Rico main event on Golden Boy Promotions LA Fight Club card on Estrella TV as Gutierrez, 22, of Mexico, pounded out a hard-fought decision win against Puerto Rican veteran Melendez, 27, much to the delight of the pro-Gutierrez crowd. Gutierrez, who was coming off a 10-round decision loss to former two-time middleweight world title challenger Gabriel Rosado in June, handed Melendez his second loss in a row and his fourth defeat in his past five bouts. In the second round, Melendez, who is a very good puncher, knocked Gutierrez down with a right hand but could not finish him. Gutierrez rallied and applied pressure for much of the fight as he took it to Melendez in a fan-friendly bout. He opened a cut near Melendezs left eye in the ninth round and got the well-deserved nod on the judges scorecards.Christian Chimpa Gonzalez?KO2 Jonathan Corrales Lightweight Records:?Gonzalez (15-0, 13 KOs); Corrales (8-4-2, 3 KOs)Rafaels remarks:?Gonzalez, 20, of Buena Park, California, is a solid prospect who seems to be getting better and better. He dropped Corrales, a Phoenix-based Mexico native, with a pair of left hooks in the first round and was in charge all the way until a right-left combination floored him again in the second round, causing referee Wayne Hedgpeth to waive off the fight without a count at 1 minute, 57 seconds. Also on the card, junior lightweight prospect Lamont Roach Jr. (12-0, 4 KOs), 21, of Washington, D.C., dropped Mario Antonio Macias (28-20-14 KOs), 31, of Mexico, in the first, second and third rounds before referee Zac Young waved off the fight at seven seconds into the third round of their scheduled eight-rounder. The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off their worst loss in 27 years while the Kansas City Chiefs are rolling into Heinz Field on Sunday (8:30 p.m. ET) on a turnover-caused high. The Steelers were smashed on the road following a 34-3 setback in Philadelphia last Sunday. The Chiefs hammered the New York Jets 24-3, in a game in which the defense and special teams caused eight turnovers. Both teams enter this contest with a 2-1 mark but with a different feel and attitude. The Steelers seemingly could do nothing right last Sunday while the Chiefs had everything working in their favor. Well, unless you ask Kansas City head coach Andy Reid. Its important we enjoy this today and then get ourselves ready for the Steelers. We have a ton of room to improve -- absolutely. We have a lot of things we can take out of this and well do that work, Reid said after the win on Sunday. The one major advantage the Chiefs have on the Steelers is turnover ratio. Kansas City is plus-5 in that department, while the Steelers are minus-1. The Steelers defense has not been producing enough turnovers and the offense has coughed the football up too much.Running backs seem to have the Steelers number. In Week 2, Cincinnati Bengals running back Gio Bernard had 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. Last week, Eagles running back Darren Sproles had six receptions for 128 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown. There is room for improvement all around, whether its the pass rush, not tackling well, not rallying to screens better, not winning third downs. We got our (butts) kicked. Ill simply say it like that. I got my (butt) kicked. We all got our (butts) kicked. Were going to learn from it, defensive end Cam Heyward said. One positive way the Steelers can look at the lopsided defeat is the Chiefs run virtually the same offensive system as Philadelphia. Eagles head coach Doug Pederson brought the offensive scheme to Philadelphia from Kansas City, where he was the offensive coordinator during Andy Reids tenure. This should allow the young secondary for the Steelers to study the mistakes they made and correct them going up against a similar styled opponent.Until you stop stuff like that, Steelers linebacker Arthur Moats said, its a copycat league. Theyre going to see we have to tackle better against the screen.dddddddddddd Were totally expecting that, but we put that out there, and its going to be on us to rectify that situation,Those comments were directed toward players like rookie cornerbacks Artie Burns and Sean Davis. Both missed numerous tackles in Philadelphia. Veterans Ross Cockrell and Mike Mitchell both need to be held more accountable as well in stopping the opponents passing attack. The Steelers secondary has not been productive at all and has allowed over 300 yards passing in all three of the games played this season.A secondary member that has been playing lights out this season for the Chiefs is second-year cornerback Marcus Peters. The 2015 first-round selection already has an NFL-best four interceptions on the season and has tackled well in space. The matchup versus Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown will be one to watch on Sunday night. Brown is fourth in the NFL with 305 receiving yards on 24 receptions, though half of those catches were versus the Eagles in the blowout loss. Brown can stretch the field and Peters loves to play physical, so this will be a highlighted battle in Week 4.This game also marks the return of Pittsburgh running back LeVeon Bell from his three-game suspension for violating the league drug policy. Most seasons this would be the opening headline but Bells replacement, DeAngelo Williams, has played solid in his stead. Williams is seventh in the NFL in rushing with 258 yards. This two-headed attack will be looking to have even better success versus a Chiefs rushing defense that is average. Kansas City gives up 123 yards a game on the ground. The Steelers need to attack the interior of the Chiefs defense behind center Maurkice Pouncey and guard David DeCastro, both former first-round selections for the Steelers. The Chiefs have been without the Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles for the first three game, as he recovers from knee surgery. But the running back-by-committee approach of Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West has been solid for Kansas City. Neither runner has the skill set of Charles, but the Chiefs average 4.2 yards a rush with three runs over 20 yards. ' ' '
