SUNRISE, Fla. -- After dropping out of the Top 25 this week, the Florida Gators looked like a team on the way up Saturday.Devin Robinson had 15 points and nine rebounds in 20 minutes to lead an onslaught by the Gators, who wrapped up a stretch of 11 consecutive away games to start the season by drubbing Charlotte 87-46 in the Orange Bowl Classic.Florida had runs of 10-0, 14-1 and 10-0 en route to a lead of 36-11 barely 15 minutes into the game, and there was little letup in the second half. A 14-0 spurt made it 77-33 with seven minutes left, and the Gators posted their most lopsided win of the season. The Gators (8-3) bounced back from consecutive losses to Duke and Florida State that knocked them out of the Top 25. Coach Mike White said hes not worried about whether his team is ranked in December.Im sure the guys care. Our fans I would think care, White said. But Im not sure how well we handled it last go-around, and I dont want that to be a focus. If were thinking about that every day, were taking time away from whats most important, which is continuing to get better. The Gators took a step forward by outrebounding Charlotte 44-23 and scoring 24 more points in the paint, despite the absence of starting center John Egbunu (strained hamstring). The 6-foot-8 Robinson led the Gators inside and was chosen the games most valuable player. He was really good, White said. He got some big-boy rebounds and played with some physicality.Charlotte (6-4) looked rusty playing only its second game in two weeks. The 49ers shot 14 for 51 for 28 percent, and their starters went 6 for 26.It was a really bad loss to a really good team, coach Mark Price said. I was disappointed that we didnt play better. You have to play your best game against a team like that. They punched us in the mouth early, and we just never responded.Gators reserve Canyon Barry scored 16 points in 22 minutes. Chris Chiozza came off the bench to contribute nine points and five of the Gators 13 steals.Charlottes Austin Ajukwa, eligible for the first time since transferring from Clemson, had 12 points and four steals in his season debut.BIG PICTUREThe Gators completed a long stretch of away games while their campus arena was being renovated.I thought that we handled it pretty good -- road warriors to start the season, swingman Kevarrius Hayes said. Its going to feel really great to be going to our home facility. I know the fans are going to love it.White said in some ways it seems like five years since his team played in Gainesville. You can spend time complaining, but it would be a waste of time, he said. Weve had no drama, no negativity, no excuses.CLASSICFlorida improved to 16-2 in the Orange Bowl Classic. Florida State , which defeated Florida last Sunday, beat Manhattan 83-67 in the opening game.I feel we can beat Florida State, Robinson said. We can beat any team in the country if we play the way were supposed to play. If we play them again, I feel we can give them a run for their money.ON THE MARKBarry went 9 for 10 from the free throw line, all underhanded. Hes shooting 84 percent for the season.UP NEXTThe Gators will play in their renovated home for the first time Wednesday against Little Rock. Egbunu is questionable for that game, White said.Charlotte returns home to play Maryland on Tuesday.---More AP college basketball: www.collegebasketball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25. St Kilda were at their best and most frustrating all in one quarter during Sundays AFL win over Melbourne.Instead of killing the Demons off in the third term, they somehow managed to lose ground.First they missed some easy shots on goal, then Melbourne rallied and turned a 29-point deficit midway through the quarter into a very gettable 11-point margin at three-quarter time.It took some stern words from coach Alan Richardson at the last break and a big rally in the final quarter before the Saints shook off Melbourne by 36 points. The win means the Saints remain in the finals hunt, at two games plus percentage behind slumping North Melbourne.Overall, Richardson was pleased with how his team played on Sunday - but admits consistency remains elusive. In their previous three matches the Saints had pulled off one of the upsets of the season against Geelong, then lost to Gold Coast and had come back late last week to beat Essendon. In the third quarter, I dont think weve played better footy (and) Im not sure we won the quarter, Richardson said of Sundays game.We werent great last week, so were still learning to be consistent with our footy. Were impatient, we want it to happen sooner rather than later.Hopefully (Sunday) was a turning of the form. The Saints will find out exactly where they stand next Saturday night when they play the third-placed Western Bulldogs.ddddddddddddFor now, Richardsons only public goal is that St Kilda keep improving. If, at the end of the day, then we qualify (for the finals), that would be brilliant - thats certainly what we want to do, he said. For the Demons, it was their 14th-straight loss to the Saints. They also have also won just one of their last 25 games at Etihad Stadium. But Sunday was also the first time that their two round-one picks from the 2014 draft, Christian Petracca and Angus Brayshaw, had played in the same AFL side.Melbourne and St Kilda are around the same point in development, with Demons coach Paul Roos noting that the Saints probably have the edge because they boast more experienced players. He said a couple of weeks ago, Melbournes reserves team had more AFL experience than their young, developing senior team.He also noted that the Demons lacked a player of Patrick Dangerfields quality to give them lift in attack when the game was on the line.Well play finals when were good enough to play finals - at the moment, were not good enough, Roos said. The ladder is there for a reason.
